    Note from Doug Ricker:

During my last tour in Korea, 2005-2014, I attended a briefing to one of the Generals on a subject that I can’t recall. During the course of the briefing, the General commented that he had never been to an installation that had so many clubs on it. I recall at the time I was thinking he should have been at Yongsan in the 80s when there was probably twice as many clubs than in the 2000s. There was the Crossroads, Hideaway, Frontier, Golf Club, JUSMAG Club, Officers Club, Navy Club, Rod and Gun, Embassy Club, Hartell House, later the Main Post Club, another club inside the gate by the KSC headquarters. I’m sure I missed a few but there were a lot of places where one could bond.

  • Thank you, Coco and Daniel, for the excellent presentations of the people and their recorded messages to the public who were able to see this exhibit while it was at the Korean Wars Memorial, “Yongsan, The Untouchable Land” exhibit. What a very talented effort to get all these people photographed and voice recordings, life-size photos created that provides a spectrum of the variety of people who made up the community that worked, lived or played on Yongsan Garrison over the years. You both deserve a fantastic award for this immense project. I hope to see this collection displayed in the future at some other significant recognition of the people who made Yongsan Garrison what it has been since 1945 to the present day.

By my last tour 1980-82, we were transmitting the information on IBM punch cards and magnetic tape. Now when I talk to young people about it they wonder how we did it. However that is nothing compared to when I talk about carbon copies, typewriters and white out
It wasn’t one of the best units I was in.. 275th and 362nd Signal Co. Communications Center. I had a pretty rough relationship with the commanders (All of them except one).
