Helping people through the American Red Cross

I will always cherish the memories I’ve made while working on Yongsan.
I love that I’m able to help people, not only during their darkest times, but also with meaningful way in which they can give back to their community.

It was very nice getting to know some of the Yongsan Legacy team. I have not been in Yongsan for long, but would love to contribute. Mr. Yu shared a little info on the project and I think it is great you guys are preserving the history of this installation.

I started working on USAG Yongsan in February 2017. The Red Cross is the only organization I have been employed through on the base.

The Red Cross office has been in the Moyer Rec building for a very long time. It even burned down once and they rebuilt it and kept Red Cross in the same location. We do plan on moving within the next month or so, but we have not been given a confirmation on which building yet.

I don’t consider any place on post to be my favorite spot, however, I do enjoy all the events that are hosted at the Collier gym. Whether its Fall Fest, Winterfest, and any type of event, I love being able to walk around and see the military community interact with one another. Before I married my husband, who is in the U.S. Army, I grew up with a father who was a U.S. Marine. As a child, I loved attending any type of military function and the memories that we made as a family. Now as an adult, living in a different country, its nice to know that the Garrison continues these events in Korea so that the families here can continue to make memories while overseas.

I will always cherish the memories I’ve made while working on Yongsan. One experience in particular was when a service member needed our assistance due to the death of a parent. After she returned to Korea, she became one of our most active volunteers. She mentioned that during the darkest time in her life, getting assistance from Red Cross was the easiest step she had to take. She wanted to make sure that others were aware of our programs and services and volunteering was her way of giving back for the support she received. I love that I’m able to help people, not only during their darkest times, but also with meaningful way in which they can give back to their community.
